Oscars 2014: make up and hair
And here are the beauties that showed up on the red carpet of the Oscars this year! Looking back at all the red carpets from this season, my conclusion is that for the Oscars the actresses opt, more and more, for classic looks, without overstatements and drama.
Maybe it’s the sleepiness of someone posting at almost 6h in the morning (terrible time zone in Paris, where I am at the moment – fashion week! – to watch the show…), but I thought of a theory that this is kind of the logic that most brides follow: the “frenzy” stays for other occasions, this is the day to be as naturally beautiful as possible. Is it? Well, truth is that perfect skin, highlighted lashes and subtle and neutral smokey eye still are the focus of most make ups, and the gorgeous waves and pretty updos keep standing high for hair choices!
Here are the photos, that as usual get huge if you click on them
Cate Blanchett – there isn’t even a thing to say, perfect… The face of who would win for sure! She is normally classier, but if we need to point a difference I would say she focused more on the eyelashes – extra glamour & impact. And eternal hair with polished waves
Angelina Jolie also varies very little on the makeup, but I always love it. Light smokey brown eye shadow, lots of lashes, highlight on the water line of the lashes without showing too much… and loose hair all thrown back, even not being tied up, in this way it won’t interfere much with the super embroidered dress
Lupita beautiful, total addiction…! She fits totally my theory – she wore “daring” makeups for the normal pattern of red carpets during all season, but for the Oscars she did the “bride” (and won!!). With a light cat eye, lashes, cute orange lipstick. I loved the spiky hair with this tiara
I always love Jennifer Lawrence, but I think this was not the best makeup she wore – it seems to reduce the eyes a little, and I missed the smokey (she always has it) to complement the line of the eyeliner. Did you also think that? But I thought the hair was great like that puffy and thrown back
Anne Hathaway, another one that is normally basic, with total focus on the lashes, cute blush, nude/pinky/flesh color lipstick and slightly thinner eyebrows
Margot Robbie, that I almost didn’t recognise, is Leonardo di Caprio’s wife in Wolf of Wall Street. Blond in the movie, she showed up brunette (and equally gorgeous) in the Oscars. I love the tone of the lipstick, a not too dark wine, and the highlighted eyebrows. And the diva curls well, they can’t go wrong right!
On the other hand Julia Roberts showed up blond! Marvellous like usual… greeaat bun with this slightly side fringe with a straight end wave and makeup in the tones of brown and gold
Amy Adams in the same brown/gold palette
And with a more structured bun, like a banana but with a wave coming out of the top of the head
Olivia Wilde with a gorgeous cat eyeliner – when I saw it I thought: if one day I go to the Oscars (ahahah), I would want to do a make up just like this one!!
Lower bun, with volume on the back and low front and with a wave similar to Julia’s, with a straight end
Penelope Cruz had her makeup done by Charlotte Tilbury, who said on Instagram that she used the Dolce Vita palette from her brand – that I actually have, and have used in a video here! It has a super gorgeous gold eye shadow. Besides that, well defined eye on the outlines and high and full bun
Sandra Bullock went with loose hair with diva waves over just one shoulder + smokey brown with a touch of colour – half purple half blue eye pencil over the water line, interesting!
Naomi Watts was one of the few wearing a colourful lipstick, with well highlighted lashes and eyebrows. The hair is very straight and graphic
Kerry Washington went with wine lipstick and grey/silver tones eye shadows + fake lashes. Half up half down hair with loose waves
Emma Watson wearing red lipstick and a hairstyle that didn’t please everyone – I thought that it worked from this angle, also half up half down well textured and with the fringe to the side
Julie Delpy wore orange lipstick and everything else super simple, and also more textured and loose hair, not so done
Jessica Biel, on the other hand, always has the most impeccable hair, right! And light makeup with a smokey line close to the lashes
Kate Hudson also wore sleek hair to one side and smokey makeup in greyish tones + sparkly eye shadow + beige eye pencil
Charlize Theron left the focus for the eyeliner, with fake lashes, mascara on the lower lashes and beige eye pencil. Short good girl hair well tidy up
Meryl Streep muse and chique as usual, with a makeup that super highlighted her eyes, lots of mascara and a smokey close to the lashes
Maria Menounos a hairstyle that I can already see being saved in a lot of inspirational folders!!! Gorgeous no? A braid that comes from the side, embedded, but cute and not “tight”, and meets the low and full bun
And beautiful makeup, smokey that seems to me it has a touch of purple, looks great on brown eyed brunettes
Jada Pinkett Smith with a gorgeous makeup for darker women (or not) – pink eye shadow, pronounced concave and very black outline of the eye with eyeliner/eye pencil
Lady Gaga showed up and surprised! All “fantasised” as classic cinema actress, it seems! I loved that it is all what the others wore, but just a little bit more exaggerated – the lashes, the blush/contour, the sparkly illuminating eye shadow, the highlighted eyebrows and the nude lips
And the bun? I thought it is super chique, very low and polished, so much like the mother of the bride, maid of honour… but with an unexpected little pompadour
Camila Alves went with eyeliner and gold eye shadow without much inventions, classic
Cute photo of Angelina and Brad to finish the post ♥
I hope you like it! I will make another post with what comes out of the Oscars after parties!
