The Ruuby Review: Dry By & Aromatherapy Associates

29/05/16

One of the best parts of my job as beauty editor / blogger is trying out beauty treatments! So when my good friends at Ruuby – the wonderfully pretty and well curated beauty concierge app (offering both mobile and salon hair and beauty treatments) proposed I try and review their treatments for Dia de Beauté, I immediately jumped at the opportunity.

From massages and tans to lash lift and manicures, I tried eight treatments in eight weeks, and all will be revealed over the next four…

If you are interested in trying the below (and more!) then download the app here and use code ‘RUUBYLOVESDDB’ to get £10 off your first booking.

Let’s begin with the blow-dry and the facial…

BLOWDRY @ DRYBY

It was love at first sight! A large marble table, seriously chic chairs, baskets carrying products (Original Mineral + Philip B), blush pink accessories, golden mirrors and the most wonderful tableware to drink coffee and tea from – it seriously feels like a home away from home (if only my home actually looked like this, that is…!).

Clients are asked to choose from a menu of blowdries names after cities, Rio (soft waves) and New York (smooth and silky) are two favourites of mine. Once you choose your style you are taken behind a curtain to a private area for the best hair wash you might ever experience (especially if you are being looked after by Francesco!). He has magical hands and offers a massage technique which he calls ‘energetic’ – I’ve never experienced anything like it before and have even returned just for this, with the blow dry being an added bonus! Jokes aside, I love the final result of Rio and New York, both of which have lasted a long time.

DryBy’s soundtrack is great and the atmosphere lively, especially on a Friday afternoon. Beauty editors love this place so always keep an eye out! And when you have more time make sure you try the Onira treatment, an organic treatment that launched exclusively there, and the manicures downstairs (super pretty décor with nail brands such as Nailberry and Smith & Cult).

FACIAL @ AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES

This is one of my favourite British beauty brands – I absolutely love their bath oils, especially the mini sets with a variety of blends (they have more than 10 options for all sorts of needs – Deep Relax and Revive Morning are two personal favourites, reviewed here).

Aromatherapy Associates products are available in stores around London but to really experience the brand I recommend visiting their Knightsbridge location, which has a mini spa downstairs.

Prior to my treatment I was asked to complete a form – probably the most in depth pre-facial form I’ve experienced to date. It even had a place for you to draw your face highlighting specific concerns. Another thing that I loved was how the mind and wellbeing was taken in to consideration and not only the skin – questions about how you feel and your lifestyle certainly makes the experience feel that much more holistic.

The questionnaire allows the therapist to tailor the treatment to your needs. My therapist choose products from the soothing range and my 90 minute treatment consisted of cleansing, exfoliation, face oils and a mask. It ended with a massage on my face, neck and head. Pure bliss!
