Inside Nexxus hair salon in NY + launch in Brazil

I fell in love with Nexxus, the haircare brand, immediately after my first contact with it – great hair products, interesting background, great brand experience (meaning: a lovely hair salon in New York with beautiful décor and a legendary hair stylists behind it – Kevin Mancuso, who has done the hair of all the supermodels and is also the brand’s creative director).

Nexxus was founded in the US in 1979 by the creator of the modern day conditioner and was recently re-launched by Unilever in the US, Canada and UK with updated formulas, premium positioning and more exclusive distribution. I had the opportunity to do a proper brand immersion including visiting the salon, experiencing a treatment and interviewing Kevin to write an article for Vogue Brazil, and the attention to detail was one of the things that delighted me the most. The décor had me thinking “I wish my house was like this” (Le Labo’s Santal candle included), the lavatory chair is the best I’ve ever tried (and let’s say I’ve been in some lavatory chairs in my life), little perks like a Fashion Week “fuel” pop up shop, with supplies for you to take away during NYFW (miniature hair products, hair accessories, Momofuku truffles). Definitely worth visiting when in New York.

As for the products, what I liked the most (besides their amazing scent) is that they are super nourishing, but don’t leave the hair feeling heavy and stiff. The ranges I’m currently using the most are Emergencée, a reconstructive system for damaged hair, and Oil Infinite, an oil infusing system with natural babassu and marula oils to nourish and leave the hair super smooth – both lines include a shampoo, a conditioner, a mask and a leave-in.

Despite the brand’s relatively new (recent) lifetime, I’ve seen a lot of women falling in love with the products, going a bit crazy when they can’t find them, stocking up when they do – I guess that’s always a good thermometer, so if you’re looking for a new hair care brand to try, it’s worth checking Nexxus out. In London they products are available at Selfridges.
