Met Gala 2014 – Part 1: favorites
Yesterday there was the Met Gala, my favorite red carpet of the whole year! Basically it is a fashion world version of the Oscars, so always on a high level of emotion – let’s say that the Met Gala is the ideal occasion for poetic licenses, to west things that would’t make sense in any other red carpet…
The gala always celebrates a new fashion exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum in NY, and this year’s is about Charles James, an English fashion designer that “inaugurated” the haute couture in the United States and was very successful from 1930 to 1950 – so, all the guests invested a bit more on their looks with big dresses, very well done hairstyles… I loved it! The makeups were in general classic, which is what goes better with it anyway
Since there are a loooot of photos, I will do this post in 3 parts – the first of them with my favorites of the night:
Sarah Jessica Parker Carrie was one of the hostesses last night, next to Anna Wintour (US Vogue’s big boss and head of the party!). I loved this gigantic bun and the makeup is also very pretty, very black eye on the contour and a glittery smudge going over the crease
The super bun was also embellished with flowers – actually, a lot of flowers embellishing the hairstyle were see on this Met Ball…
Blake Lively would have certainly loved living during Charles James’ time… and she totally incorporated the glamour with this full waves + classic makeup with the highlight on the eyelashes
Blake’s hair was tied on one side, very beautiful
Although she was the most contemporaneous and minimalistic, I loved Emma Stone’s side braid! And I thought the smokey eye in neutral shades was soft & beautiful
All the women on Dolce & Gabbana’s team – like the top model Kate Upton – had flowers embellishing the hair, I really loved it. Also neutral makeup, but perfect and just enough illuminated
Karlie Kloss with false eyelashes and a doll face – I loved the brows…
And the hair, great inspiration for an updo if you have short hair like her
Another soft makeup I found marvelous was Toni Garn’s, smokey eye in the “movie diva from another era” style… I also like this hairstyle a lot, with more defined waves, another chic option for the ones with short hair (although it works for all lengths!). Toni & Karlie were necklaces twins right?
I really liked Suki Waterhouse’s bun, with texture, in between messy and glam… I am already including it on my inspiration folder for my sister’s wedding hehehe
Gorgeous makeup with matte red lipstick and soft smokey in earthy shades
To finish my favorites of the night (it was very hard to choose…), Beyoncé, incorporating the drama that fits so well in a party like this – wine lipstick, clean eyes, low and minimalistic bun & vintage style lace
