Beauté Tour in Dallas

12/04/16

Last week I travelled to Dallas, Texas, to attend the rewardStyle conference – it was super inspiring; I left with so many ideas for Dia de Beauté!

It was my first time in the city and, although I didn’t have much free time, I managed to do some “beauty exploring” and, of course, wanted to share the discoveries with you. (Side note: there are many delayed Beauté Tour posts for me to write – Copenhagen, Moscow, updates for New York, Paris and Milan and more… Stay tuned!)

The first discovery was Grange Hall, a concept store that sells clothes, jewelry and home décor, has a restaurant and a tiny but great selection of beauty products – Cire Trudon candles, Santa Maria Novella products, several niche perfume brands… We also had lunch at the store’s restaurant and it was very yummy and pleasant, totally recommend the visit.

Not far from there you’ll find Forty Five Ten, which is also amazing, but sadly was closed when we tried to go (it was Sunday). Their beauty department is also niche and very interesting, with Surratt, Edward Bess, Koh Gen Do and Kjaer Weis makeup, Serge Lutens perfumes… Definitely worth going if you’re in town – the fashion selection is super cool as well.

Another store I loved visiting was Bluemercury. I only knew their e-commerce and had never walked into a brick and mortar shop. It’s located in Highland Park Village, a super nice open-air shopping mall, and it’s totally focused on beauty, with several makeup brands (Nars, Laura Mercier, Hourglass, RMS), skincare (Bliss, REN, Skinceuticals, M-61) and hair (R+Co, Bumble & Bumble, Moroccanoil). There’s a lot to choose from, but at the same time the store is small and cozy, with great sales people, so you don’t feel overwhelmed – really enjoyed the experience.

And of course, being in the US and not going to a pharmacy is just… Impossible. I couldn’t help the strategic pit stop at the CVS in my hotel’s street (stayed at The Joule) – I swear I walked in just to buy Airborne, my favorite vitamin which I thought was only available in the US (a few readers said on Snapchat that it is also available in Portugal and Spain, have to do a better search in London)… But of course the “American drugstore phenomenon” took over and I left with a bag full of stuff – DDB asks for it, what can I do? The products will be featured soon in videos or posts, but here is a sum up of what I bought:

. Crest White Strips – I really struggle with teeth whitening treatments at the dentist’s clinic – it makes my teeth so, so sensitive – and a friend who has the same problem mentioned using these strips with great results so… Will try!

. New members of the Maybelline mascara family – Lash Sensational, Rocket and Falsies Push Up Drama

. Hair claw clips – I always buy them, since mine constantly disappear

. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Medium – never tried it, summer is round the corner, thought it was the right time to give it a go. I do believe in the power of body makeup…

. Airborne – the effervescent Vitamin C that also boosts the metabolism (aka big responsible for my drugstore strike)

. 3 lipsticks – Doutzen’s pink for L’Oréal Paris, Baby Lips pink gloss and Color Blur, both Maybelline – and a nude Revlon lip pencil

. L’Oréal Paris Root Cover Up – spray to cover gray roots and save you from having to go that often to the colorist. I’ve used Bumble & Bumble’s, so let’s see how this one works!

At Bluemercury I bought:
Laura Mercier nude lip pencil (can you see a pattern? More about that soon…), NARS Mysterious Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (I had my eyes on this shade forever) and the Power Spot Blemish Lotion from M-61, Bluemercury’s own product line –, a spot treatment similar to Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion but, according to the salesman, even better for being vegan, not containing talc and working just as effectively.
